Building Blocks Preschool-An Early Childhood Learning Community

2017 Preschool Directory

March 2, 2017

Building Blocks Preschool is passionate about the need offer the families in our community a high-quality early childhood program
whether they need infant/toddler care or a preschool program, summer care for their school age children, a half-day program or a full-day program.Ā  All children deserve an early childhood program with a stable, enriching and loving environment.

Our overall goal is to instill a ā€œLove for Learningā€ in each child.Ā  This is accomplished by emphasizing all areas of child development (emotional, physical, intellectual, creative, social and practical life skills ā€“ the whole child). Our curriculum is designed
to foster these areas of child development based on the belief that young children need to be actively involved in learning through play as well as on widely accepted theories and principles of child growth and development. Play provides endless opportunities to explore, experience, take risks, succeed, fail, and develop social skills.Ā

Established in August 2004, Building Blocks Preschool is nature-based preschool grounded in the traditions of the highly regarded Italian model of early childhood education, The Reggio Emilia Approach. Popularized by esteemed teacher and psychologist Loris
Malaguzzi and named after Reggio Emilia, Italy the city in which it began.Ā  The Reggio Emilia Approach is child centered
and responsive to childrenā€™s natural interests and ideas. Perhaps most importantly Reggio Emilia inspired schools awaken and reinforce the many different methods children use to express themselves - whether through the visual arts, music, drama, storytelling, or a host of other ways that Malaguzzi referred to as ā€œlanguagesā€ in The Hundred Languages of Children poem.Ā  He states in the poem that, ā€œThe child has a hundred languages, and a hundred hundred hundred more.ā€

With the Reggio Emilia Approach as our inspiration, Building Blocks Preschool places an emphasis on nature as a vast and wonderful
classroom and puts your child in the center of it. Nature walks, unscripted exploration and good old-fashioned outdoor play provide the backdrop for learning.
Our unique school has a natural outdoor classroom used daily and backs up to 5,000 acres of Highland State Recreation land which our program utilizes throughout all four seasons. Math, science, and literacy skills evolve naturally through meaningful and engaging conversations and activities. Social dexterity forms and flourishes as children learn to work together,
recognize relationships and make connections.

Building Blocks Preschool prides itself on the

excellence of our educated and highly trained teaching staff, all of whom are

committed to providing children with extraordinary learning opportunities. Every family, child and teacher adds to the community of learners at Building Blocks Preschool. Children are valued for their creativity, natural curiosity, expressiveness, differences, and endless potential. We celebrate their appetite for invention, encourage creativity in problem solving and revel in their accomplishments.

At Building Blocks Preschool our teachers observe, document and research childrenā€™s thinking and learning to guide and support their experiences.Ā  Learning Stories are emailed home to parents daily in our Preschool Programs.Ā  Learning Stories tell the story of the classrooms experiences throughout the day while at school.Ā  What often looks like childā€™s play is in fact a very valuable learning experience.Ā  Learning Stories include photographs and direct quotes from the children along with providing descriptions of activities and the learning benefits behind them.Ā  These daily Learning Stories offer families a spring board for discussions at home
about daily experiences at school.Ā  U
pon graduation families receive a personal learning story book, a priceless gift that documents each childā€™s individual journey at our school.
